The brand was born in 1976 thanks to their famous inventor Steve Jobs.Macs are popular in the US and around the world. (Source: Lalmch)While the PC market has been declining since 2014, Apple has remained ahead. In 1998, they brought out their famous iMac, a desktop computer with a modern and sleek design. Between 2000 and 2008, they were constantly bringing out new iPods and iPhones which put Apple in a good position against their competitors. In 2008, the modern version of the MacBook Pro came out with the now-famous single-colour Apple logo. What Are the Different Models of Mac?The hardest thing about Macs is choosing the right one. You’ll need to think about:Memory, especially on the MacBook ProThe processor type (it’s a good idea to have an Intel Core i5 or Intel Core i7)The operating system (MacOS)The screen quality (retina display)The hard drive capacityThe size of the computerMacs have a decent life span, even those that have been reconditioned or refurbished. While there are way more than 10 reasons to get an Apple, we think that should be enough to convince you.Of the Macs available, we have:iMac, a desktop computerMacBook ProMacBook AirMac MiniiPadHow Much do Apple Products Cost? Before choosing your Mac, it’s important to consider the price. Here's a quick rundown of the cost of Apple products.A MacBook starts at £1,249 for a 12-inch LED-backlit Retina Display. You have a choice of processors from the 1.2GHz dual-core Intel Core m3 up to the 1.4GHz dual-core Intel Core i7 processor. The battery in these will last you up to 10 hours and you can get up 512Gb of SSD storage. The MacBook Air starts at £949 for a 13.3-inch LED-backlit widescreen display. With these, you can get either a 1.8GHz dual-core Intel Core i5 or a 2.2GHz dual-core Intel Core i7. The batteries on these last for up to 12 hours and have the same maximum storage as the MacBook. The MacBook Pro starts at £1 ,249 for a 13.3-inch LED-backlit Retina display and either a 2.3GHz dual-core Intel Core i5 or a 2.5GHz dual-core Intel Core i7. This extra power comes at a cost as the battery life is around 10 hours like the MacBook. You can get up to 1Tb worth SSD.There are several versions of Apple's tablet, the iPad. The 32Gb version starts at £319. However, if you add Wi-Fi+ and Cellular, this goes up to £449.and the 128Gb version starts at £409 but goes up to £539 with improved mobile connectivity. As you can see, there are other criteria that will affect the price such as the screen, the integrated functionality, touchscreen, memory, storage capacity, etc. A second-hand Mac can set you back around £500 with or without a warranty.Check out our complete guide to computers.Top 10 Reasons for Buying a MacYou need to be careful when buying yourself a new computer... Except when it comes to a Macbook because you know exactly the quality you’re getting. Let’s see those 10 reasons for buying an Apple computer. It doesn't matter which Apple device you have, it should be able to connect with any other Apple device. (Source: FirmBee)1: Apple’s Networked SystemThe Apple Store is great! The best thing, you know that every Apple product is made to work perfectly with Apple products: whether you’re sharing your photos on the iCloud, synchronising notes, or recognising programs. Basically, when you choose Apple computers, you know exactly what’s available. You’ll notice that some laptops run really slowly. On some Windows PCs, it can be difficult to synchronise your photos and apps or even get some devices working. When it comes to Macs and iPhones, in just one click, everything’s saved.2: Mac’s Utility for WorkIf you use your Mac for work or for study, you can rest assured that it’s perfectly suited to what you’re doing. While a lot of people think that PCs are business types and Macs are creative free-spirits, this is no longer the case. Apples are powerful and versatile machines. Why?Macs generally come with a lot of RAM, especially the Pro versions, which can come with up to 128Gb of RAM.Screens range between 11” and 17”, meaning that in addition to being portable, they’re also very comfortable to use. That said, you can also alter the brightness with the simple touch of a button, allowing you to work anywhere, anytime. However, word processing isn’t as easy on a Mac as it is on a PC since Microsoft Word is primarily designed to be used with Windows. That said, the Mac version isn’t terrible.3: Fewer VirusesUnlike Windows PCs, Macs are much better protected against viruses. While some people say that Macs don't get viruses, that isn't necessarily true. However, there are significantly fewer viruses being created to attack Apple products so there are fewer things to worry about.Of course, you still need to be careful when opening links and suspicious emails as your data can be stolen by a scam just as easily on a Mac as it can on a Windows PC.By choosing a Mac, you’re choosing security. This is especially useful if you’re working with sensitive information.4: TimeMachineSaving your data on a workstation or a hard disk can be a complicated process if you’re transferring data between your phone and computer, for example. With TimeMachine, you just need to launch the app and all of your data will be backed up. If you lose some data for some reason, you can restore the latest version very easily. It should be noted you can’t connect USB or a card to MacBook Air. However, you can on a MacBook Pro.5: Macs Start-Up QuicklyLinux systems can take some time between turning on and showing the home screen. With Macs, you won’t be worried about your system crashing like you might be with a Windows system.  This is even true for the iMac, an all-in-one desktop computer.6: Mac Shortcuts Improve ProductivityShortcuts can drastically improve your productivity by allowing you to do complex actions quickly and simply . While they also exist on Windows, they’re not as intuitive. While a lot of people think PCs are just for business, Macs can also be useful! (Source: Free-Photos)Some models can use shortcuts both on Bluetooth mice and keyboards.7: Apple’s Pre-installed SoftwareIf you’re familiar with the Office Suite, you’ll quickly fall in love with some of Apple’s own software like Numbers, Pages, and Photobooth. You can also easily install other software packages like Photoshop and InDesign on a Mac. Programs like iMovie allow you to make your own videos or edit photos.8: Beautiful DesignThis is what sets Macs apart, their legendary design which is both modern, minimalist, and customisable. Apple products tend to have a decent graphics card and will display a beautiful desktop.Design comes at a cost, check out our price guide to computers, and read our article guide PC vs. laptops.9: Macs Can Run WindowsYou can also install Windows on a Mac. This might seem odd given that Macs have the ir own operating system, MacOS. This is really useful if you want to run certain Windows programs or make the most out of the Office Suite. This is particularly useful if you enjoy gaming as a lot of games don't work on Macs. When it comes to desktop computers, this can make your Mac really flexible and adaptable. You’ll have a machine with no limitations.Want to expand your knowledge of computers and get the most out of your mac? Take coding courses in a city near you!Macs are more intuitive, efficient, and quicker.10: Macs Are ModernEven if Macs are usually more expensive, you get functionality for both work and play:Preview files at the push of a buttonSend documents with AirDropTarget mode for Macs with FireWireA powerful mainboardVirtual multi-screen functionalityEffective docksFiles in columns, which is really easy to use.We should also mention that Macs are crystal quiet, rarely overheat, and slim (especially in the case of the MacBook Air). You can carry it everywhere with you in a handbag or a backpack, without even realising it’s there on account of how light they are (the MacBook Air only weighs 920 grams!).When it comes to choosing between Mac and PC, your mind might already be made up.Check our guide comparing Mac and Microsoft computers in more details. Are you ready to invest in a Mac?

8 Study Tips You Never Thought of (That Actually Work!)

8 Study Tips You Never Thought of (That Actually Work!) Megan L. Put away the double espresso and throw out those energy drinks! With these eight easy study tips from San Diego, CA tutor Natalie S., you no longer have to jump through hoops to stay awake and cram for your exams. Check out the tips below, and start your journey towards better study habits now: Learn your personal study process. Are you most productive in your room, at the library, outside, or in a coffee shop? Do you like to listen to music, or does it have to be totally quiet? Do you need an occasional cup of coffee to get you started? Are there certain healthy foods that you like to eat while studying? Do you need to write down your notes in order to comprehend the information, or is it better to read them aloud? In other words, are you primarily an auditory or a visual learner? Figure out your study process, and it will be much easier for you to focus and get a lot of work done. Eliminate distractions! Don’t waste time texting and stalking people on Facebook. Those activities are a time suck, and they get in the way of developing good study habits. Put your phone on silent, and close the Facebook tab on your computer. Find your favorite study music. If you like to work in a coffee shop or a bookstore, but need to avoid some of the public distractions, make a playlist of your favorite study music and listen to it on your earphones. Instrumental music is often the best since it doesn’t have any lyrics that will distract you and tempt you into singing along. Classical music is also said to stimulate the brain, so it’s good to listen to this type of music first as it may boost your brainpower! Take stretch or exercise breaks. Hours of sitting and studying exacerbate mental fatigue. Instead, spend five minutes stretching, doing sit-ups, or jogging in place to get the blood flowing and give your brain a break. Drink water! Studies show that staying hydrated with water helps the mind stay sharp and focused more than any other liquid. Skip the sugary sodas or the caffeine-filled energy drinks in favor of pure water. If you simply must have some sort of flavor in your drink, try making a natural, herbal tea. Write down your notes. Rewrite your notes, and then rewrite them again. Students often write too much information when they first hear a new concept. They record everything the teacher has said and they crowd their brains with too many details. Take your first set of notes, and read them over. Rewrite them a second time in a more concise fashion, paraphrasing only the most important details. Finally, rewrite them one more time in bullet points. Rewriting your notes and cutting them down each time forces you to learn and remember the material, so it’s more manageable. Use alarms. If you have trouble buckling down and studying for long periods of time, try setting a timer to go off every 30 minutes. Then step away your computer, put your phone on airplane mode, and study until the alarm goes off. Take a short break; check your texts if you have to, and then do it again. Working toward an immediate deadline makes you focus more because you’re working toward something concrete. Use a reward system. Whether it’s lots of small snacks throughout your study session or one big prize at the very end, give yourself a treat for hitting certain study milestones. Maybe you could reward yourself for reading up to a certain chapter, or perhaps you get a reward for every hour you study. Whatever you choose, if you stick to this system, you’ll have more motivation to study harder! Use these study tips to figure out your personal study process, and you’ll be on your way to successful, productive study experiences that will increase your GPA and reduce your stress. Learning by Doing Ways to Study as a Kinesthetic Learner

Learning by Doing Ways to Study as a Kinesthetic Learner Suzy S. Do you learn best with a hands-on approach? Learn about the most effective kinesthetic learning strategies in this guest post by New Milford, NJ teacher  Matthew H... In a previous post on study skills for high school students, I discussed some of the different learning styles that work best for different people. Sometimes, a student can even be a mixture of two or more types of learner. As a result, the way you approach studying should reflect the way that your body and mind process information best.  Before you can start studying, find out what type of learner you are. Determining That You Are a Kinesthetic Learner You most likely are a kinesthetic learner if you have ever said that you learn best by doing something yourself. Occasionally called tactile learners, kinesthetic learning strategies need to incorporate a “hands-on” approach to whatever subject you are studying. What separates each learning style from the other is when and how that “a-ha” moment happens. For kinesthetic learners, the light bulb often goes off in the middle of using their body in motion to subsequently understand a new concept. Ways to Incorporate Kinesthetic Learning into Your Studying Intense Approach When studying, anyone with kinesthetic tendencies should use his or her body and movement to the fullest potential. This doesn’t have to be super intense, but incorporating diverse muscle groups is useful because then the whole body is working together in helping your mind discover a new way of thinking. For example, if you have a history test and need to remember different country names, get up and envision the floor as an enlarged flattened globe. Walk to where each location would roughly correspond with each other. In doing so, you are allowing yourself to learn the information based on a spatial relationship with your body in motion. Using a transparency to project a map on the ground might be useful if you have the resources available. Moderate Approach But a kinesthetic learner doesnt have to go to such extreme measures to incorporate more of this style into his or her study habits. Even smaller movements, like synchronizing hand gestures to trigonometry formulas can be useful. In this case, a closed fist could represent sin, open palm cos and an extended index finger tan. Use these different hand signals in conjunction with reviewing the formulas while preparing for an exam. These types of gestures will help a kinesthetic learner retain information because the body will be reinforcing the mathematical concepts based on the relationship of the subtle to exaggerated movements with the mind’s thought process. As always, everybody is different and every body is different. You have to figure out what works best for your own body based on your unique experiences. The best kinesthetic learning strategies are those that keep you active. Staying still will not get you anywhere. If you recognize that you are not only a kinesthetic learner, but also do well aurally, incorporate playing music or dancing into your study sessions. Maybe you’re a mix of kinesthetic and visual, in that case, draw or paint or shape clay to help you learn the material. In any case, by incorporating more movement into your preparation, the learning process will become more fun, and you will have much more productive study sessions. 5 Steps To Embracing Your Passion For Playing Guitar

5 Steps To Embracing Your Passion For Playing Guitar Suzy S. The best guitar players are passionate about their craft, spending hours studying the instrument, memorizing the chords, and learning new techniques. Even when youre feeling frustrated, maintaining that passion is essential! Read on as Upper Marlboro guitar teacher Bako A. shares his 5 steps to success Think of something that you enjoy doing. Maybe it’s shopping, or maybe it’s going to the movies. Whatever it may be it does not matter. So you have that in your head of what you like to do. Alright, put that aside in your brain for a second, and think about the guitar. Im about to pump you up. First of all: Playing guitar is all about expressing emotion and focusing on your initial flame of inspiration. Your life can change when you embrace your passions. Passion is one of the key elements that drives people to do things. Just like your passion that you may have with (from before) shopping, or going to the movies, guitar can be one of those things too. The great thing about guitar though is that you are able to express yourself creatively. Here are the 5 steps to embracing your passion for playing guitar: STEP 1: Spend time looking for an amazing guitar tone that truly inspires you! A great guitar tone is one of the secrets to playing the guitar passionately, and having a tone that inspires you will make you want to play with passion. STEP 2: Practice expressing different emotions with the same phrase! Do you spend time practicing your emotions on the guitar? Basically you take a musical idea such as a bend or a vibrato and express various emotions on the same note. You can express love, anger, satisfaction, frustration, success, or joy on the guitar by practicing doing a vibrato on the same note. The only difference is the way you play the note. By learning how to express your emotions on the guitar you will definitely become more experienced at the art of passionate guitar playing. When you learn to play guitar you can play songs that other people have written and play them your own style. Slow it down or speed it up. It’s all up to you, the player. When you are learning, make it your #1 objective to express emotions while you play. Keep this in mind every time you pick up the guitar. Also, stop seeing the fretboard as a series of notes, fret numbers, and scale patterns. Start seeing emotions that you can express on guitar. By rethinking your current guitar player mindset to work with that of a “highly expressive guitar player,” you can become a music expression virtuoso! As you practice your musical expression more, you will see huge results in all areas of your guitar playing. STEP 3: Become a master at understanding the degrees of scales and their sound! If you want to make more money, lose weight, or buy a new item of clothing â€" you’re doing it because of what you think it will give you, which is a certain emotion. For example, you believe that by losing weight you will feel more confident. Or by attracting this type of person into your life, you will feel loved. Or by making a million dollars, you will feel happy. Even if you do not understand the theory behind the music, knowing the emotion and the feeling that a particular degree produces is the most important thing. STEP 4: Use your body and facial expression to confirm your sound! By expressing your sound through your guitar, with the help of body movement and facial expressions, you are often able to produce a stronger, more convincing tone. However, don’t overdo your facial expressions, otherwise you might end up looking silly â€" do it where it make sense! The truth is, if you involve your entire body in your guitar playing, your sound and tonal expression will most certainly be more convincing and effective. STEP 5: Become a master artist by mixing all the right elements into your guitar playing! You must mix all the right elements to create great, PASSIONATE guitar playing! If you diligently practice your passionate side of playing the guitar, you will eventually become a master artist mixing the right elements to create an absolutely gorgeous tone. You also need great knowledge, technique, and experience to produce great guitar improvisation. If you add emotion, colors, and passion to your playing you will be able to touch the very fiber of the human heart and win over more fans listening to your guitar playing. At the end of the day, touching emotion is what it’s all about. Make sure that each and every week you schedule some guitar expression and emotion practicing time. I wish you the greatest of success with your guitar development! Interested in Private Lessons? Search thousands of teachers for local and live, online lessons. Circle Surface Area - Math Online Tutoring

Circle Surface Area - Math Online Tutoring A circle is set of all the points that are in the same plane and equidistant from a central point. The radius of acircle is a line segment that joins center of the circle and any point on the circle. The circle surface area isthe space occupied by the circle. Therefore the formula to calculate surface area of a circle is r2. Surfacearea is also simply called area of the circle. This surface area is a very useful tool and may be betterexplained by the following examples. Example 1: Find the surface area of a circle. The radius of the circle is 30 cm. Solution: For the given problem Radius of the circle r = 30 m. Surface area of a circle = r2 When we replace the value of radius, we get, Surface Area = x 30 x 30 = 3.14 x 900 = 2826 m2. The Surface area of the circle will be 2826 m2. Example 2: A circular tank needs to be painted black. Find area of the cover of a circular tank. Theradius of the tank is 10 m. Solution: For the given problem Radius of the tank r = 10 m Surface area of the cover of tank = r2 When we replace the value of the radius, we get; Surface Area = 3.14 x 10 x 10 = 314 m2 Surface area of the cover of circular Tank is 314 m2

Top Five TED Talks for Parents of Children with ADHD 2019

Top Five TED Talks for Parents of Children with ADHD 2019 TED Talks are inspiring video presentations from influential speakers on a wide range of topics including health, science, education, and creativity. When it comes to topics related to ADHD, speakers often have personal experience and encourage us to think differently about what it means to be different in a society that prizes conformity. When youre feeling bogged down by the extra work that comes with parenting a child with ADHD, these invigorating talks may just give you the boost that you need. Here are the top five TED Talks that I recommend for parents of kids with ADHD. Failing at Normal: An ADHD Success Story Speaker: Jessica McCabe Jessica McCabe, host of the popular YouTube channel, How to ADHD, talks about her journey from being a bright child with a promising future to a struggling young adult unable to find her way personally or professionally. Frustrated with continually not reaching her full potential, Jessica embraced her ADHD diagnoses and carved out her own path to success. ADHD As a Difference in Cognition, Not a Disorder Speaker: Stephen Tonti When he presented this TED Talk, Stephen Tonti was a senior at Carnegie Mellon University majoring in Film Directing. He shares his personal experiences with ADHD and explains how he has come to realize that ADHD is not actually a deficit in attention, as the name would imply, but a difference in cognition. Stephen argues that once we understand these differences, they can be harnessed and used to turn passion and interest into real world success. What Happens in Your Brain When You Pay Attention Speaker: Mehdi Ordikhani-Seyedlar, PhD In this talk, Dr. Ordikhani-Seyedlar, a computational neuroscientist specializing in machine learning, discusses what is happening in our brains when we pay attention. He describes in easy to understand language the complex processes our brains go through when focusing on something specific while filtering out irrelevant information. He encourages viewers to think differently about why we procrastinate and how we can maintain productivity even when our minds push us to veer off course. The Power of Introverts Speaker: Susan Cain Not all kids with ADHD are extremely talkative and outgoing, as the stereotype suggests. In fact, many kids with ADHD especially those with the inattentive subtype are more reserved and introverted. Theyre frequently overlooked by teachers and peers and struggle to find their place in the world. In this highly popular TED Talk (viewed over 4 million times its first year), Susan Cain celebrates the strengths of introverts and the unique insights and abilities that they bring to the table. Guessing - Private Tutoring

Guessing BobbiM Mar 25, 2014 Ever had to guess on a test?  Scary right? Of course you’ll find that you have to occasionally guess on tests.   But you should never just guess at random.   Narrowing down the answer choices first is imperative.   Otherwise, your odds of getting the right answer will be pretty slim.   Follow this plan when you guess: 1.             Eliminate answer choices you know are wrong.   Even if you don’t know the right answer, you can often tell that some of the answer choices are wrong.   For instance, on Date Sufficiency questions, you can eliminate at least two answer choices by determining the sufficiency of one statement, 2.             Avoid answer choices that make you suspicious.   These are the answer choices that just “look wrong” or conform to a common wrong-answer type.   For example, if only one of the answer choices in a Problem Solving question is negative, chances are that it will be incorrect. 3.             Choose one of the remaining answer choices.

School Uniforms - Tutor Hunt Blog

School Uniforms School Uniforms School UniformsSchoolsAre school uniforms an overly authoritarian constriction on children`s identities? Straight jacks for their free self expression? Or are they a way of installing pride in pupils, and promoting the values of equality and inclusivity? At both the schools I attended - primary and secondary - I was required to wear a uniform. In the sixth form we had to wear a suit every day, and whenever I see crowds of people wearing this formal attire (typically at weddings and funerals - happy and sad extremes) I am reminded of my last two years of my schooling. As someone who was never attuned to the fashion scene, I was rather fortunate that my prosaic clothing style couldn`t be detected whilst at school. A uniform made everyone equal in this regard, preventing the formation of fashionable cliques of students, who had the money and stylistic acuity to seek out the most glamorous garments. Bullying can occur for all kinds of reasons - students wearing unfashionable clothing would certainly be targets. In America the vast majority of academic institutions lack a uniform, and while this may make TV dramas set in their schools look more colourful and interesting, it is also one of the reasons an estimated 160,000 children are absent from school each day, fearing belittlement and even violence from their peers. A school uniform protects students against this kind of peer pressure, while promoting the sense that they belong to a community, to an academic establishment. You can hardly bully someone for what they are wearing when you yourself are clad in the same attire. It is believed that a school uniform reduces distractions in the classroom, and so promotes learning. It is a credible theory that if, from your vantage point in the class, you see students all dressed the same, instead of a panorama of different colourful outfits, you will be more focused on the teacher, and the lesson they are presenting. While there are an abundance of empirical studies and theories concerning school uniforms, and their effectiveness in advancing education and establishing discipline, there is a single scholarly work that is most often cited. The Long Beach Unified School District was the first, and is to date the most comprehensive, study of school uniforms in schools. In 1994 the school district board voted to make uniforms mandatory in all elementary and district schools. Up to this point no large urban district throughout the whole United States had made the wearing of uniforms compulsory, so it was a major ruling. Just a few years after implementing the policy, the school district reported that attendance improved, suspensions dropped by nearly a third, vandalism fell, assaults dropped by two thirds, and examination results rose. So impressive were these results that the then President Bill Clinton mentioned the policy and its effectiveness in his 1996 State of the Union Address, which led many other districts to implement uniform policies in their schools. The president`s speech included the memorable line:`If [a uniform policy] means that teenagers will stop killing each other over designer jackets, then our public schools should be able to require their students to wear uniforms.` It might not all be positive though - some parents have complained that their child`s school demands the uniforms are purchased from a specific supplier, which can prove expensive. This issue was addressed in late 2013, when the Liberal Democrats issued new guidance to allow parents to shop around for their child`s uniform. The Education Minister David Laws said that he wanted to put an end to profit sharing schemes that had existed for too long between certain schools and shops:`We will send a strong signal to schools that it is vital to secure value for money for parents before changing or introducing new school uniforms. Parents need to be able to shop around to find the best deal.` In the UK the Department for Education strongly recommends a uniform, but it is actually up to each school`s governing body. Christ Hospital School in London, back in 1552, is believed to be the first school to have pupils uniformly attired. The French actually discarded their school uniform policy in 1968, but it seems the swinging sixties didn`t have that effect on the UK establishment! 2 years ago0Add a Comment
